Southeastern Umbria is dominated culturally by Spoleto and geographically by the Apennine Mountains.  We start our day in Spoleto with a walking tour of this beautiful town, It’s rich and varied history lies in the enormous pink and white blocks that have provided a base for the city since Etruscan times.  Here you will find Roman ruins, Romanesque churches and Renaissance art.
Continuing on to the beautifully preserved town of Vallo di Nera perched above the river it previously guarded you can visit the 13th century Chiesa di Santa Maria which is home to 14th century frescos painted by Pietro and Antonio.  Sitting on the high plains of the Apennines, Norcia can seem very isolated.  The town is famous throughout Italy for its culinary specialties and in particular for the dried and cured meats found in the various butchers shops.
