Day 1: Saturday
Arrive in Rome and transfer to accommodation in Umbria.
(Transfers are included for all flights arriving prior to 3:30 pm into Rome) 


Welcome to your Italian country Residence. Catch your breath as you settle into your apartment and casually discover all the elements of your home for the next week.  
This evening Your welcome dinner is included at a family Trattoria in Passignano sul Trasimeno.

Day 2: Sunday
Today we visit the Umbrian countryside starting in Assisi. We start with a walking tour through the mediaeval town center towards the Basilica of St. Frances of Assisi, the Patron Saint of Italy.  Assisi is full of hidden treasures and every side street and view is breathtaking.

We arrive at the Basilica and, on your own time, you have the opportunity to enjoy the frescos by Giotto telling the story of St. Francesca whom is also the patron Saint of  the Children and animals. A visit to the Basilica, on three levels, ends with a visit to the tomb of St Frances on the lowest level.  At lunch today we enjoy the foods at La Tavola dei Cavalieri, high in the hills behind Assisi.  Everything you enjoy today is grown, produced or arrives from the surrounding farm including their award-winning signature beers and wine.

We return to the accommodation to freshen up before going to Cortona for dinner.  Cortona is a beautiful town with Etruscan origins.  Dinner is on your own with many restaurants available.  Your tour manager would be happy to suggest some options.

Day 3 Monday:
You start the day with a drive through the Tuscan countryside we arrive to Montalcino, home of the famed Brunello wines.  We will visit the Cantina d’ Camigliano for a tour of the cellars and a tasting of four of their exceptional wines, included their famous Brunello.  A light lunch of local cheeses, meats and the estate olive oil accompanies the tasting.

This afternoon we stop to visit first Pienza and the stunning views of the Val d’ Orcia and home to the region’s most famous cheese:  Pecorino.  We continue on to Montepulciano home to the Vino Rosso d’  Montepulciano where a less formal tasting is made at a local Enoteca where you also have the opportunity to sample other local specialties as well as cinghiale  (wild boar) salami.

We return back to the accommodation to freshen up and relax before departing for the nearby town of Tuoro and Dinner at the Antica Residenza,  I Capricci di Merion.  Dinner is included.

Day 4 Tuesday:
Florence and Castello Sonnino. A full day to explore the Renaissance City of Firenze. 
You have a reservation with admission to visit the Accademia and Michelangelo’s “David”.  After an introduction walk through the historical centre you will have the opportunity to explore on your own.  If you are interested in visiting the Uffizi Gallery reservations are highly recommended.

Day 5: Wednesday
Today we explore the sites and wines of Chianti.  Starting with a visit to Siena and an introductory tour to this medieval city.  The famous Piazza IL Compo, famous as the setting of the Palio of Siena, greets you with its fan shaped brick work pavement.  We carry on to the Duomo built at the height of the Renaissance and visit the interior of this most beautiful Cathedral.  There is free time for shopping or simply “people watch” from a café.  Your day continues with a lunch in the delightful walled village of Monteriggioni.  Our next stop is the vineyards of Caparsa to taste the wines of this famous wine making region.  This family vineyard is owned and run by the Cianfernoi family. Here you will feel and begin to understand the passion of local wine makes. We continue on through the vineyards and landscapes of Chianti to the town of Radda in Chianti.  This is a delightful town to visit and wander enjoying the very picturesque vistas over the countryside.

Day 6: Thursday
We start our day in Perugia, the capital of Umbria. Our first visit is to the impressive Tower of Porta Sant’Angelo. This is the largest of the medieval gates in the city and offers wonderful views of the surrounding countryside.  Next door you will find the Temple of St. Michael the Archangel.  It origins began in the 6th C.  We walk towards the main city through medieval streets, a perfect Etruscan Gate and into the main city.  The vehicle restricted center makes Perugia a wonderful place to roam and explore.  There is free time to shop, visit the Etruscan Well and the delightful chapel in The Church of San Severo home to a spectacular fresco painted by two great renaissance masters Perugino and his student Raphael.  Your time is yours and you can do as little or as much as you please.
This evening we are the guests at the restaurant of Il Cipresso.

Day 7: Friday  
This morning may begin with an optional Hot Air Balloon ride over the Tuscan Countryside.  Truly an unforgettable experience. Experience Tuscany from a wicker basket hundreds of feet in the air, float over forests, vineyards and historic towns.  Enjoy a glass or two of the award winning Ferrari Maximum Brut and a memorable breakfast with products from our local markets and fresh pastries.  If you choose not to join this optional tour you are welcome to join the tour manager to the launching site witness the colourful liftoff and then explore the local area.  Intimate villages and wonderful vistas await you.  
We return to the Il Borgo for a relaxing afternoon and this evening a
farewell dinner at LilloTatini located in the historic village of Panicale.

Day 8: Saturday
Departure and your onward journey.  Transfers will be offered to Terontola Rail Station or Perugia. Transfers to Rome Airport available at additional cost.
